Night of German U boat terror aboard Professor

Galveston Texas March 19 The crew of the Harrison line steamship Professor tells of a February 9 night when German unrestricted submarine warfare brought torpedo threats and rockets lighting the sea. An explosion near a tanker lit the scene as the torpedo narrowly missed the Professor and radio calls for help flooded in. Survivors from the Atrist had earlier perished from exposure, with nine rescued survivors near death ashore.

Arrests After Freight Depot Holdups

Deputy Marshal Adams and Night Policeman Cook arrested two young white men after a string of hold ups near the Santa Fe freight depot. They were examined Tuesday, then remanded to jail in default of bail set at 6750 dollars each to await higher court action.

Road Bond Election for Good Roads Won

The road bond election for Road District No. 12 carried by 129 votes for bonds and 21 against. It will connect Walkers Creek and Maysfield to Cameron via a fifteen mile solid road from Silver City to Walker's Creek bridge, expanding Cameron's trade area formerly flowing to Calvert. The Herald praises the district's heavy approval and urges the small defeat to reconsider.

Redistricting Cuts To One Congressman In State

The legislature abolished the congressman-at-large seat and redrew districts. Next year voters will elect only one congressman. The Sixth district now includes Navarro, Freestone, Limestone, Robertson, Brazos, Milam, Leon, Madison and Hill counties.
