Baylor Students Enlist in Navy From Cameron Fans

Hilton Howell Max Plaster Charles Culpepper and Neil Ellis Baylor University students from Cameron are sent to Dallas for Navy enlistment exams and pass with perfect scores. Howell and Plaster, notable Baylor figures, join the service. Culpepper captained soccer and Ellis engaged in class activities. Four Baylor men win slots as the recruiting office reopens.

Letter of Appreciation from Texas State Committee

Call for Camp Travis entrainment set with quotas

Provost Marshal issues telegrams for the local board detailing Call No. 83 to move about 1443 white men at Camp Travis and Call No. 93 to entrain 2500 Negroes within three days. The notice stresses actual delivery of men, explains quota terms, and lists Milam county as taking 15 whites plus about 60 Negroes from the first quota.

Partnership Formed Merges Local Plumming Shop With Temple Firm

The Joe Griffith plumbing shop joins with Bruner Gardenhire Company of Temple to form a Cameron Temple plumbing sheet metal and pipe fitting firm. Former Temple foreman Joe Griffith will now oversee operations as the new company serves Cameron and Temple and invites local business.

Cameron Commercial Club Organized in Cameron

A large Friday night meeting in Cameron's District Court room formed the Cameron Commercial Club with nearly 200 men attending. Speakers from Waco and Bryan urged service to the community, unity, and action. George T. Moore nominated Robert McLane for president, with Roy Jeter as vice president, S. A. Cottle as secretary, and Dave Wilson as treasurer.

Business Girls of Cameron Organize War Savings League

The Business Girls of Cameron form a War Saving Society with 50 members at Milam County Abstract Company. Officers elected include Myrtle Caldwell president and Ade line Caldwell reporter. A Business Woman's League is created to fund Tourist and War Savings Stamps for charity after the campaign. Buster Brown and Tige visit Cameron for a 4 pm Thursday reception at Triggs Dry Goods.

Community elects 12 trustees by open nominations

A meeting discussed selecting twenty-five candidates for board positions. After opposition to closed committees, all present helped nominate, producing twenty six names. Voters chose the twelve top nominees by secret paper vote. A 50 cent per member and $1.00 per business firm assessment was approved. Meetings set for Tuesdays and Fridays March 15 to plan future public gatherings.
