Appeal Made for Sale of Stamps In Milam County

In Milam County district court last Saturday Judge T. S. Henderson and Gus W. Thomasson urged Wart Saving Stamps and Liberty Bonds to support the war effort. They warned that only a small portion of the population realizes the nation is at war and that thrift through stamps teaches saving while aiding victory.

Limit Placed on Purchase of Flour in Milam County

Milam County officials report a new wartime flour limit: 12 pounds for town customers and 24 pounds for country customers, effective until further notice from State Chairman Peden of Houston. Several local figures and a Dallas-based War Stamp speaker, Mr. Thomasson, advocate saving and patriotic spending to support the war effort.

Commercial Club to Be Organized in Cameron

A Cameron meeting in the district court room Friday March 8 1918 invites local business leaders and prominent Waco Young Men's Business League speakers to form a Commercial Club. The event follows a patriotic flag raising on the public square with speeches by Judge Henderson Judge English Rev Harbin and local officials praising civic effort and war support. War Stamps sale is announced and Al Cottle credited for coordinating the event.

Cameron Seeks Civic Club Organizing Delegation

A long distance call to Mr. Al Cottle notes that Wace Young Men's Business League and the Chamber of Commerce will send a Cameron delegation Friday afternoon and night to aid forming a Civic Club, led by W. V Crawford and G. H. Penland, urging all professionals to attend and boost the town.

P O Adams Donates Woolen Goods to Red Cross

Local resident P O Adams donates $200 worth of woolen goods including sweaters and helmets to the American Red Cross Chapter in the city. Deliveries will be made in $25 lot installments as part of his “do his bit” effort.

First Thrift Society Formed in Yarrellton

The War-Saving Society reports the organization of a Thrift Society at Yarrellton on Monday evening. It is the county’s first such society with 38 members and aims to reach at least 100. R. M. Doolan, Yarrellton route agent, actively circulates literature and collects stamp orders.

Fire crews quell stove oil tank leak in Cameron

Fire Department rushed to a call at the Petty home in north Cameron. A leak in the stove oil tank caused the alarm but flames were quickly controlled with no damage reported.

Milam County Boys Sought for One Acre Corn Club Drive

In Rockdale Texas on March 1 1918 a call goes out to enlist 1000 Milam County boys aged ten to eighteen to grow one acre of corn each. The effort, backed by the A and M Extension Service, aims to boost self sufficiency and farm output with a 25 bushel per acre goal. Boys must plant one acre, keep daily records, and report at season end.

Tag Day for Hospital Bed Endowment Raises $143.25

The Jeff Rogers Chapter United Daughters of the Confederacy held a tag day last Monday to endow a bed in a French hospital for wounded soldiers. The event ended in success with $143.25 collected for the cause.
