City Secretary W. H. Stafford says three names filed to appear on the ballot for three alderman seats in Cameron on Tuesday April 3. Dr Swift’s Clinic to Open in Cameron April

City records show January building permits total 13945.00, led by construction of Dr C G Swift’s Clinic at 300 North Central. The clinic, in the Morrison Building, will feature modern X ray and therapy facilities and is expected to be ready by mid April with Stanley Hughes as contractor and Wm P Carey Lumber supplying materials.

Marine Reservist Recalled to Active Duty Faces Japan Posting

Pfc. F. W. Mortimer, Marine Reservist recalled November 30 1950, stationed at Camp Pendleton California until recently. During peace time he served at San Diego. He spent twenty two months in World War II and is with H Company 6th Replacement Draft. He sailed from San Francisco February 15 for Japan and his wife Helen Ruth Richards lives with her parents in Minerva while he is away. He is the son of Mrs Helen C Mortimer of Cameron.

Milam County Farm Bureau Backs Rabies Fox Bounty Plan

About forty farm bureau members and county citizens met with the Commissioners Court at a special session led by Judge Dan Tyson to address increasing rabid foxes. Dr. Lyle McDermott and others urged action. Colonel O G Tomlinson urged forming a committee to work with vets to place a bounty on foxes. The committee includes Hubert McClaren Emory Doss H R Fuchs and Ozell Angell. The court agreed to cooperate with the committee to control the fox problem as rabies cases rise and cattle losses grow.

Representative to Be Here March 6th

More than 1700 people have filed social security claims at Austin as eligibility expands under the new law. Individuals 65 or older may qualify with about a year and a half of covered work since 1936. A Social Security rep will visit Cameron at the Department of Public Welfare at 1:00 p.m. on Tuesday March 6.

Farmers Urged To Utilize Soil Conservation Practices

State and local officials chaired a meeting in Milam County on February 27 to promote the Agriculture Conservation Program ACP. Alva E Sanders noted the program aims to protect land productivity and assist farmers in adopting soil and water conservation methods without mandatory terraces or tree planting. W S Chenault praised local efforts and highlighted Texas counties lagging in ACP progress.

Two-Term Limit For Presidents Now Law

The 22nd Amendment now effective after Nevada’s ratification limits any president to two elected terms or a total of ten years. Any person who has served more than two years of a predecessor’s term cannot be elected more than once in their own right. President Truman is exempt and may continue to run if he lives and receives votes.

Red Cross Drive Underway for Milam County Funds

The Red Cross mobilizes for defense with a March 1 campaign kickoff at Milam Coffee Shop attended by about 25 volunteers. County and community chairmen including Earl Curtis Jamie Clark and Floyd Stark outlined regional roles for Bartle Crenan Gause Rev Powell and G. R. Warner. Albert Collins spoke on the 1951 setup as war times raise demand beyond Korea.

Southwestern Life reports record 1950 results

S. E. Brogdon with Southwestern Life for 34 years, the company released its 48th annual financial statement showing 1950 new paid-for business of $115,186,624 and total in force of $820,222,242. Assets rose to $223,090,135.07, with capital and reserves at $20,952,645.90. Policy benefits paid reached $10,289,556.81 and average face amount per delivered policy rose to $4,834 from $4,261.
