Green Pilots at Haifa Prepare for Mediterranean Mission

In August 1942 at a small brick base near Haifa the 98th Bombardment Group with B-24 Liberators briefed for a Crete listed raid. Col Hugo P. Rush led the briefing as pilots prepared to strike Rommel’s supply routes in the Mediterranean and North Africa.

Lt Norris Brady Returns to United States After POW Release

Navy pilot Lt Edwin Norris Brady, B-24 crewed, arrives from captivity in Germany after 15 months as a POW. Letter from sister Mrs Gladys Westbrook reports landing in the States, 60 day leave in Victoria, Texas, with a stop at Cameron and possible reunion with brother Brooks Brady. Brady was shot down over Southern Italy and earned the Air Medal in 1944. He was interned at Stalag Luft I Barth, received fresh meat after liberation by the Russians.

Chicken Supper Planned by Marak Church

On Sunday July 1 from 5 to 8 p m the ladies of SS Cyril and Methodius church Marak host a chicken supper. Father Ben Holub invites friends and residents to attend for 50 cents per plate with additional attractions to follow. Many from the community and surrounding areas plan to attend amid meat shortages.

Sgt. Hal R. McDonald son of Mr and Mrs Henry R McDonald Box 81 Ben Arnold has been assigned to Casablanca with the Air Transport Command North African Division under Brigadier General James S Stowell. Casablanca will move about 40 000 troops monthly with a C 54 every 15 minutes.

War Food Administration released new dairy feed payment rates. April butterfat 17c and whole milk 70c, May June butterfat 10c and milk 35c. Payments for April to June will begin July 1. Staff Sgt Julian W Arnold: Hero of 573 Days in Italian Campaign

Staff Sgt Julian W Arnold, 30, returns from Italy to civilian life with honors after 573 days of frontline combat. He served as gun section chief for the 633rd Field Artillery and fought from Salerno to the Gothic Line, taking part in the Rome capture and earning the Purple Heart.

Production Payments Now Available to Feeders of Cattle

Milam County feeders may apply to the County AAA for beef cattle production payments under a new government program. Payments are 50 cents per hundredweight on Good or Choice cattle 800 pounds or more selling at or above $13.60 in Milam County, similar to the dairy payment program. The scheme aims to curb inflation by stabilizing meat prices and preventing wage spikes.

Family reunion visits in Arkansas town

Death of Roy Eichenhorst in Austin Hospital at 17

Roy Eichenhorst 17 died at 11 45 p m June 20 1945 in an Austin hospital two weeks after illness. He was born and raised in Cameron a Yee High School student and football team member. Survived by father W B Eichenhorst and brother Robert in U S Navy now in the Pacific. Funeral plans were to be announced with body returning to Cameron. Doctors initially suspected infantile paralysis but later diagnosed infective neuritis with paralysis. Galveston specialists call it a unique case.

Foster Produce Company opened a green corn market here on Wednesday. L. A. Hoage of Po teet assists in moving the crop from the packing shed. Milam county roasting ears are known across many states. The corn crop is reported excellent and sales are large. Mrs. H L Green and Marshall Green return from Hampton Virginia with Mrs. Frank Perrin and children to be with husband Lt. Perrin.

Geo A James Died in Temple After Illness

George A James a 61 year old prominent farmer and stockman died Tuesday June 26 1945 in Temple Hospital after a period of illness. He was a native of Austin County and longtime Ad Hall resident member of Church of Christ. Cameron Soldier Wounded on Okinawa Returns to El Paso Hospital

Pvt John H Davis of Cameron is hospitalized at William Beaumont General Hospital El Paso after being wounded by a Jap sniper on Okinawa May 15. A rifleman with the 7th Infantry Division he arrived June 16 for convalescence. His wife Grace Markham and four year old son are in El Paso. his parents live in Cameron. he was a bank teller before enlisting.

A Hanover farmer, Joe Kirk, saw his pickup loaded with tomatoes burn near Little River bridge around 10 p m Wednesday while en route to the city. Firefighters from the central station, led by Frank Richter, saved part of the truck, with damage totaling about 200 dollars. Mr and Mrs L C Boyd were in Cameron Friday.

New Minister Opens Pastorate at Cameron Church of Christ

North Central Church of Christ in Cameron welcomes Jack Southern the new minister who has moved from San Angelo to begin his first pastorate. A revival meeting starts June 27 led by F. F. Conley, a returning Cameron revivalist, as members plan an evangelical campaign beginning next week.

Chevrolet promises early production of cars and trucks

Killed in Action Sgt Bill Worcester of Cameron

Sgt Bill Worcester of Company M 411th Infantry is reported killed in action in Germany. He had been listed missing since April 1945 with a June 11 1945 Austrian letter confirming his death. His platoon leader's letter praises his service, selflessness, and recommends a citation.
