Indians beat White Sox 17 to 1 in a four inning game, while the Yankees and Braves battled to a 12 to 12 tie at Yoe Field. Parker and Ma cad with four hits lead the Braves. Provasek pitched poorly for the Sox, issuing many walks.
The Little League Braves beat the Indians 7 6 as a five run fifth inning and a later homer by J Smith carried the Braves. The Indians had five hits while the Braves totaled six.
Dr Sidney Ho Richardson formerly of Smithville will relocate to Cameron on July 1 to open a general medical practice with offices at 114 North Fannin and residence at 601 East 10th Street. He is a Baylor University and Medical Branch Galveston graduate and served three years in the Army during World War II. He and his wife have three children Linda 7 Ronnie 5 and Jerry 4.
The Rotary Cats beat Rosebud 2-1 Tuesday with winning pitcher Bobby Elliot for Yee High School. Rosebud’s E Meier took the loss while Monrole Bayer relieved the Exes. Carol Fikes earned the victory for the Cats. Yee High School also beat Cameron Exes 4-2 with pitcher Bobby Elliot credited with the win and E Meier noted for the Rosebud effort.
Postmaster John R. Hays said effective July 1 the Post Office Department will raise fees for special services. Special delivery five cents higher. money orders and certified mail fees increase. additional handling charges set. insured mail value increases. correction mailing and return receipts higher. no change yet for C O D charges. Rates available at the post office or by request.
The First Methodist Church announces a 7 p.m. Sunday service to honor 90 Vacation Church School participants. Children with perfect attendance will receive recognition. Director Mrs. James Kahler named additional volunteers including Mrs. Ernest Shepherd and others. parents and friends are invited.
The Chamber of Commerce and The Herald honor Bill Burns of Cameron as Citizen of the Month for May. A native resident and WWII Navy veteran, he has long led chamber work including 1955 president, chairs the industrial committee, and serves on the city planning commission. He is a partner in Marek Burns Funeral Home.
Jack Prescott became president of the Cameron Lions Club at the annual installation dinner held Tuesday night at First Methodist Church. Louis McKee stepped down. new officers include Jimmy Wiggs as first vice president Richard Williams as second vice president Bill Crockett as third vice president five directors D Ripley Charles Brady Karle Pearson secretary-treasurer Tom Boyd tail twister Rev Richard Bradshaw and lion tamer Bill Marek. Ben Magness acted as master of ceremonies.
About 200 members attended a Farm Bureau meeting Thursday night to hear Billy Yeager speak on Guam. He recently returned from service on the Pacific Island. Yeager is the son of Mr. and Mrs. F. B. Yeager of Rt. 2. Vice president Robert Jungmann presided.
About 125 people attended the Cameron Masonic Lodge open installation Monday night for new officers. Grady Allen installed as worshipful master, Dean White as senior warden, Olue G Chamberlain as junior warden, and J. Z Krall as secretary. Rainbow Girls presented a rope and the event marked the first open installation since the 1920s. Other officers included R. P Wilbers treasurer, George Meeth secretary, and Jess Droek installing marshal.
Cameron Gospel Tabernacle will stage a four day homecoming honoring Rev H M Bowley completing ten years as minister. The event runs July 4 to 7 at the church with three services daily and a July 4 picnic at Cameron City Park.
Milamy County farmers and stockmen are invited to tour Blackland Experiment Station Friday June 2 at 9 a.m. The annual event, in cooperation with Bell County field day, includes Extension Service A and M College and SCS staff.
A school tax election is scheduled Saturday from 1 am to 7 pm at Ye tt School for Yarreilton and Cameron district voters. Superintendent Wiley Lough reports the districts will decide if Yarreilton rate of 61 cents and Cameron rate of 1.90 will be approved, a decision reached after county board action two weeks earlier that closed one Negro grade school.
Milam County authorities designate a second draft board to operate south of the Little River as part of expanded selective service. Board 255 members Arthur Y. McDaniel Lan M. Peeples and Harry Wayne Clark named. Norwich Jones S Clement nominated but moved out of county. Four men left Cameron for induction including Raymond Posival Robert Bowley Winfred Thompson and Edward Adama.
Miss Lenora Bickett announced the annual Farm Bureau beauty contest to be held July 25 at Simon George Wall. Entries must be filed by July 5 at the Cameron FB office for girls 16 to 22 who are Farm Bureau families.
Supt. Wiley Loughmiller announced all vacancies filled in O. J. Thomas staff while Yee High School still seeks four teachers in mathematics industrial arts English and commercial subjects Cameron school board approved recommendations for eight new Negro teachers at O. J. Thomas.
Miss Jean Fischer of Rogers earned a scholarship to an Executive Secretary course at Durhams Business College in Waco. Officials telegrammed last week that her essay Why I Would Like A Business Education placed eighth among 1500 entries.
Milam VFW Post 2010 will meet at Ledbetter Park Hut on Tuesday to receive instructions. Post commander Marvin Hendricks and Thorndale team members will swear in seven new members as District Commander Arthur W. Harrison leads visiting officers. All current and former members are invited and a barbecue will follow.
Two Milam County teachers join 100 participants at the University of Texas Summer Institute for Science and Mathematics running until July 12. Mrs Patsy Brance of 708 N Fannin St and Edward A Springs of Rockdale are among the attendees.
A Dallas firm bid about 34000 dollars as low bidder for the Cameron Post Office renovation. Postmaster John Hays says the bid is not yet awarded and the project remains pending.
