Bohemian Relief Drive Aims to Aid Bohemia in Crisis

The Cameron Commercial Club forms three committees led by Oxsheer Smith, Henry Hefley and George Graves to raise 1000 for Bohemian relief in Czecho Slovak republic. Donations of clothing and milk for babies welcomed at Cameron Tire Store with pickup by local volunteers. Czecho Slovak Day in Texas on Saturday 28th marks final fundraising push.

Gift to Cameron Education Funds New Yee High School

Mrs. C. H. Yee donates a Cameron site and a $125000 high school building with complete equipment and a park. She also bequeaths a 40 acre tract for an agricultural branch, to be maintained by tax, supporting a lasting education for future citizens.

Cameron Opens Free Open Air Band Concert in Civic League Park

Cameron high school led Cameron Concert Band under Prof J N Crawford held its first free outdoor concert. The 48 piece group drew several thousand to the pavilion, with saxophone quartet solos and a cornet duet amid praise for the raw recruits and quick learners. The Lone Star Band founder and Rotary tour figure Crawford lends high expectations for the ensemble.

Miss Owen Bacon Wins Belton Scholarship in Voice

Miss Owen Bacon of this city has been awarded a voice scholarship at Baylor College Belton for the coming year. The Federated Music Clubs of the state award two annual scholarships to talented girls seeking advanced music instruction. Congratulations pour in for Miss Owen on this honor.

Howell Family A Happy Reunion

A Cameron family reunion gathered at the home of Mr. and Mrs. T. A. Howell as five sons joined them around the family table for the first time since their wartime call. Jay served overseas after training at Camp Bowie. Hilton served in naval aviation while a Boston Tech student. Bill joined the Texas National Guard. Lee and Alvah remain Cameron public school students. The story notes Mr. Howell’s connection to James C. Lee Jr. and the Lees of Revolutionary fame.

Mr. F. C. Mondrick of Mondrick Bros has let the contract for a ten room bungalow. The modern structure will be one of the prettiest homes in Cameron and sits in the western part of the city two blocks from the Sap depot.

Cameron Commercial Club met June 20 1919 with President Robi McLane and officers present. They discussed joining the Texas Commercial Club Executives Association, paying 5 dollars dues, planned a Waco meeting, relief drive committees for Czecho Slovakia, a cream shipping station study, street weed cleanup prizes, and adjourned after reporting visitors from Alexandria Louisiana.
