Iven J. Vogelsang volunteered for the United States Army on January 23, 1942, training at Fort Sam Houston and Colorado Springs, earning high averages and signal honors as a sharp shooter. He went from Salt Lake City to Pendleton Field Oregon and is now in the Quartermaster Corps. He is the son of Mr and Mrs Will Vogelsang and attended Vogelsang and Yee High School in Caner on.

Pioneer Cameron resident Roman Parma dies at 90
Roman Parma 90 longtime Milam County resident died Thursday evening June 17 1943 at his Cameron home after a long illness. Funeral services were held June 18 conducted by Rev Geo J Duda of St Monica's Church with burial in Cameron Catholic cemetery. Born July 20 1853 in Prague he came to America at age 18 and settled in Texas later living in Milam County for 39 years. Surviving are four sons George J T Joe J and W J Parma and two daughters Mrs Marek and Mrs Kubecka.

Mrs Anna D Zelisko 56 died when her car overturned on Highway 194 near Pettibone at 9 30 am. She lived in Cameron and was bound for Buckholts. An inquest found a possible front tire blowout as the car rolled. Funeral services planned in Cameron and Buckholts with Lutheran rites.

Newton Baird, the nation s top fugitive, leaped from a Missouri Kansas Texas train window near Royse City in Rockwall County. Funeral services for Mrs Mae Hefner Thompson were conducted at 5 p m Saturday June 19 1943 at First Methodist Cameron. She died June 18 1943 at her sister’s home in Ennis after six weeks illness. Interment in Oak Hill Cemetery Marek Burns Funeral Home directed. She was a sister of Mrs Mamie Laird and daughter of the late Mrs S E Brady. Surviving five sisters and three brothers are named with pallbearers listed.
