The Belton fire department racing team heads to Cameron on July 3 to compete for prizes in the fireman races. Other central Texas departments will attend. The Belton team plans to invite Cameron teams to Belton on July 4 and Chief Hamner asks volunteers to relay how many can travel to Cameron.

West Texas partly cloudy with possible thunder showers in the Panhandle. Temperatures a few degrees below normal. precipitation minimal. Yesterday’s highs: Galveston 86, Cameron 92, Henrietta and Lampasas 96.
The report notes unsettled travel conditions for long trips from Texas across Oklahoma Kansas and Arkansas with swollen streams and variable road quality. West and southwest routes look better while some paths via El Peso through San Antonio Del Rio Langtry Sanderson to Fort Stockton are discouraged. Cameron routes via Georgetown Burnet Junction to Fort Stockton advised.
The Cameron Odd Fellows lodge elected officers for the coming year. W. OO. Triggs was named Noble Grand and F. B. McGill became Vice Grand. Secretary Jim F. Chadwick and Treasurer Chas. Smith will hold over, with all appointive officers to be installed at the first July meeting.
Mrs Trent Newton and her children have returned home after visiting relatives in Brookshire.
Senator Joe Burkett of Eastland announces candidacy for Texas governor in the 1924 Democratic primaries. He outlines plans including a state central bank with farm focus, fire proof warehouses, ex service member bonus, tax reform, water conservation, industrial liberalism, state highways, and improved schooling. Rosebud shoots for victory Saturday and Sunday against Cameron at home. Manager Muldrew promotes a strong new lineup and the club seeks wide notice. Cameron has beaten Rosebud three of four in recent meetings and will clash in anticipated hard fought games.
Deputy Will H. Little tells how he and two colleagues executed four warrants on June 7 1928 at the Bob Stevens farm on the Waco road. He describes confronting suspects Clare Brashear and Wesley Stevens as he was shot and wounded, with recover expected soon.
A Cameron celebration planning meeting outlines a July 4 event at City Park with 15,000 attendees expected. Proceeds from the barbecue support the American Legion Firemen and local baseball team, with a San Antonio Texas League game as a highlight.
Sheriff Rogers reports a whisky raid near Val Verde capturing four men and seizing ten quarts of liquor and 200 feet of mash. In a separate raid another unit found five gallons and a buried jug, with two men arrested and a third still jailed. A German descendant was detained on liquor charges in the county.
