The Texas Department of Highways and Public Transportation plans to cut about 600 jobs by September 1 1976 as revenues fail to keep pace with highway costs. Since September 1975 the department has shed roughly 2 250 positions and may trim another 800 next year if funding does not improve.
Texas officials warn farm vehicles may not be used for non farm gainful work. Violations carry a misdemeanor fine of 25 to 200 dollars. Plates must be surrendered if a farm vehicle is sold to a non farm operator and re registration is required. A department wide cost cutting and a statewide study on needs and priorities are under way amid inflation pressures.
