Texas officials outlined plans for a statewide mass inoculation against swine influenza this fall. The program, led by the Texas Department of Health Resources and Governor Briscoe, will target over 10 million residents in a 90 day period with a killed-virus vaccine. Volunteers will coordinate county by county, with July for vaccines for the elderly and chronically ill and September for the general public.
A three vehicle crash six miles south of Milano on Highway 36 at 2 p.m. left Paul E. Hopkins in critical condition after his van type truck caught fire. D W Keese Jr. of Georgetown sustained a knee injury while 13 year old Timothy Ray Clanton of Milano escaped unharmed. Firefighters from Cameron Milano and Caldwell extinguished the blaze.
Cameron businessman Ray Lester dies after a short illness at his home. Funeral held 10 a.m. Saturday at Little River Baptist Church with Rev. Stanley Vodicka officiating. Burial in Little River Cemetery. Survived by son Jimmy Lester, daughter Jean Lester Case, brother Harlan Lester, sister Mrs. F. M. Harrell, five grandchildren, one great grandchild. Marek Burns-Laywell Funeral Home in charge.
The Calvert PTA sponsors a Womanless Wedding on June 25 at 8 p.m. in the high school gym. Proceeds benefit the high school band for new uniforms.
