Motorcycle Races Highlight July 4 Holiday Program

Minister Confesses Fraud In Injury Probe

Milam County Texas, Rev J L McRea of Rockdale confessed to engineering an injury scam to collect 500 in accident insurance and to fund a 15 000 damages suit against the Southern Pacific. He described faking a highway attack and staged train injury before jail.

Large seed theft ring arrested in San Gabriel area

Ten Black suspects held by Constable Colvin of Rockdale in one of the county’s largest cotton seed thefts. Emory B. Camp reports more arrests to come. About 20 tons of cotton seed stolen from two San Gabriel farms, investigation ongoing.

The Shakespearean film Romeo and Juliet starring Norma Shearer and Leslie Howard opens June 24 at the Cameron Theatre with dramatic dueling scenes filmed for six months. Butler Case Set for Monday Trial in Milam County

Nolan Butler 19 of Val Verde is charged with the murder of G. C. Gaines 21 of Val Verde. Trial is scheduled in Milam County district court for Monday June 21. About 100 enforcements have been summoned. The incident occurred March 13 1987 near the Robert Downing store at Val Verde at 10 p.m. Gaines suffered a 10 inch stab wound to the left side and died April 4 after hospitalization.

Baskin Firm Moves to Fahrendorf Building

The B. J. Baskin dry goods store has moved to the Fahrendorf building beside the Bluebonnet cafe. One of the city’s oldest firms, Baskin’s relocation follows the Smith building being rented to J. C. Penney Co.
