Belton School Tax Cut Attempt Fails 5-2 Vote

Lampasas residents reenact a Gold Rush event at an abandoned gravel pit on June 22 as part of the Bicentennial celebration. Participants bring digging tools to search for buried treasure with prizes described as Mexican gold coins valued on the world market at 30 dollars each. The starting gun will fire at 2 p.m.

Solon Predicts Tax Increase After Budget Vote

Rep. Dan Kubiak of Rockdale told the Rockdale Rotary Club that the $12.1 billion state budget approved by the legislature will likely trigger a statewide tax increase in two years. He criticized $300 million in spending, opposed the budget, and supported a utility regulation bill creating a three member commission to oversee rural telephone, sewer, water, and electric rates starting after 1977. He urged Gov. Briscoe to appoint three good commissioners.

Stiles Farm Foundation Field Day Draws Local Farmers

The 13th annual Stiles Field Day in Thrall on June 17 features two tours at 2 p.m. and 3:30 p.m. with stops on pond use and small grains. Educational booths from extension service experts cover crops beasts farm economics forages and insect disease control. TP and L Seeks Council Nod for 11 Percent Rate Hike

Texas Power and Light Company asks Cameron City Council to approve an electric rate increase averaging 11 percent. TP and L manager Larry Morrow filed the application to be heard before the council. If approved, the rise takes effect on bills issued October 1, 1975, marking the fourth general TP and L increase in 63 years, though prior voluntary reductions exist. Even with the hike, the average residential cost per kilowatt hour would still be below the 1955 level.

Bicycle Car Accident Sends Girl To Hospital

A Cameron girl Melanie Bradley 12 was injured in a bike car collision around 4 p.m. Wednesday in the 700 block of Emancipation Cameron. Driver Jesse Weber of Cameron. She suffered a fractured leg and multiple cuts and bruises. She was treated at St Edward Hospital and transferred to Scott and White Temple. No charges were filed in the unavoidable accident.

Milam County 4-Her Heads on National Heritage Tour

Suzanne Sims of Thorndale Milam County 4-H is one of 70 Texas youths picked for the 1975 National 4-H Citizenship Shortcourse and Heritage Tour. The trip from June 9 to two weeks includes stops in Arkansas Tennessee Washington D C Monticello Grand Ole Opry and Williamsburg. Suzanne will tour the Capitol Mount Vernon Arlington Cemetery Smithsonian and more then visit Congressman's Poage office before returning via historic sites.
