Tax proceeds fund public services and education in Texas
The Texas Attorney General's Taxation Division handles delinquent sales tax collections certified by the State Comptroller. About 13 of 108 attorneys and a quarter of 91 clerical staff work on this burden. State revenues from sales taxes in 1972 totaled $818 million for public services, with cities receiving $178 million in local shares. Most business collectors remit on time, but some fail to pay, prompting AG action to recover delinquent taxes.

Limited Gas Shortage Appears Mild Across Texas
A statewide AAA survey of 101 gasoline stations in 32 Texas cities finds only four percent allocating fuel and thirty percent cutting hours or closing early due to shortages. Prices ranged from 30.9 to 40.9 for regular and 33.9 to 42.9 for premium with Panhandle highest. Most stations still have low lead but expect shortages by month’s end. 73 percent say they received at least as much fuel as last year, some more.
