Tomato growers reported smiles as prices held around 10 cents a pound with No 1 and No 2 varieties at 10c and 5c respectively. The market rebounded from opening, fetching 9 to 10c per pound. ripe No 1 tomatoes also 10c. Crop is short but quality good. farmers earned about $6 per bushel on Monday and Tuesday.
Workmen remove unsafe awnings from the Taylor Building and the Lillian Mendick Building near Court House Square. Plaster fronts replace the old facades and extend to the Moore Building corner where Henry Lippman removed an awning earlier.

Rex Marshall longtime cattleman and former Rockdale city marshal died in St Edwards Hospital Monday June 7 after a year of ill health. Funeral services were held in Rockdale Wednesday June 9 with interment in the local cemetery. Survived by his widow two sisters and three brothers. The Marshall family were early Rockdale settlers.

The Senate also backs allowing 25,000 aliens to serve in the armed forces and may pass a civil rights amendment permitting segregation on request. Passage and presidential signature would reactivate draft boards nationwide.
Texas Department of Public Safety will assign two Highway Patrolmen to Cameron about July 1 per Director Homer Garrison Jr. The move follows repeated requests from local officials and residents. Housing for the patrolmen is being arranged and local cooperation is expected.
Mrs. Ida Garrett aged 72 died at her Cameron home on Tuesday June 8. She was born June 27, 1875 in Macon Georgia. Funeral services were set for 4 p.m. Thursday June 10 at the Cameron Methodist Church conducted by Rev. Miller Smith. Interment followed at Murray cemetery. Survived by husband W H Garrett Cameron a son Earl Laird Portland Oregon a daughter Mrs Earl Leech Rockdale one brother D C Baggett Fort Worth and five sisters Cora Baggett Cameron Leach Carter Corpus Christi Jack Ledbetter Quam Ada Fred Dierz Bryan plus four grandchildren.
Miss Beatrice Dodson a Durham Business College student visited this past week at the home of her parents Mr and Mrs C Dodson in Aus tin.

Mrs. John Crawford, 91, died Tuesday at her son T. A. Crawford's Cameron home. Born December 7, 1856 in Monroe County Kentucky, she moved to Texas in early days. Funeral set for June 9 at 10 a.m. from the Crawford residence with Marek Burns Funeral Home handling burial at the old city cemetery. Survived by sons T. A. Crawford of Cameron and J. R. Crawford of Houston, a brother Shad Turner, 12 grandchildren and 14 great grandchildren.
Former Rockdale residents return for the fifteenth annual Home Coming Reunion in Rockdale on Sunday June 13. The voluntary gathering, organized years ago, draws hundreds yearly with no fixed program, arranged informally at Fair Park. Cards have been mailed statewide and beyond.

Judge Ed Gunn of Cameron announces his candidacy for Milam County Attorney to be decided in the Democratic Primary on July 24. He has long roots in Milam, lived in Rockdale, moved to Cameron in 1942, and served as Criminal District Attorney. he pledges knowledge and experience to handling the county's legal duties and serving the people with diligent care.
