A 38 year old Georgetown man died from a heart attack during an argument outside a cafe Monday morning. Witnesses described a brief struggle before one man collapsed and died at the hospital. The incident follows a Calvert County dirt bike police car crash last Sunday injuring two children.

Funds Approved for San Gabriel River Project

Additional funding for the San Gabriel River Project was approved after the May allotment exhausted. The Granger and Northfork Dams are involved, with Granger about 30 percent complete and five months ahead of schedule due to good weather and long shifts. Temporary relief funds of 2.8 million were moved from other corps accounts, and Congress has approved about 18 million for Granger Dam and spillway, aiming for completion by January 1, 1979, across more than 11,000 acres east of Granger.

Pond Creek Watershed Authority Dissolved Pending Governor Signature

Repairs Begin on Rosebud Lake Dam in Waco Area

Young Brothers Inc of Waco won the repair contract after delays until spring. The project aims to stabilize the failing dam within 8 to 10 weeks by excavating the damaged section, refilling with compacted soil, and adding a reinforcing dirt mound along the dam. Rockdale man pleads guilty to obscene phone call in county court

Joseph M. Callis of Rockdale admitted guilt in county court on a charge of making an obscene phone call and was sentenced to 30 days in the county jail. He also faced a $250 fine and $47 in court costs. The day’s actions included probation revocation for Henry James Young in a DWI case and other driving while license suspended, DWI, and aggravated assault convictions.

Stiles Field Day Attracts Area Farmers In June

The 15th annual Stiles Farm Foundation field day is set for June 21 with tours at 2 p.m. and a 5 30 p.m. program and barbecue featuring State Rep. Bill Clayton. Activities include cotton root rot tests, herbicide studies, sorghum varieties, beef cattle conditioning, a new fish hatchery visit, swine facilities, and displays by Texas A M Extension Service and Texas Agricultural Experiment Station. The 3 200 acre farm near Thrall is under Texas A M System trusteeship and serves as a Central Texas blackland area demonstration farm. Amtrak will add daily Inter American service from Chicago to Laredo starting June 15, with northbound service from Laredo beginning June 17, affecting Temple and other Texas routes.

Sheriff and Deputy Talk Down Threatening Juvenile

A 15 year old, related to a Baker family member, confronted officers with a 2 gauge shotgun at a home six miles east of Cameron on FM 2096. After more than an hour of negotiation, Deputy Brooks disarmed the youth as Broadus held his attention. No charges were filed and he will receive medical attention.

Police escalate citywide traffic enforcement start June established

Police Chief Kent Butler reports increased surveillance begun June 1 with a grant for selective traffic enforcement. The force will add 40 hours weekly patrolling high accident areas and issue more tickets for violations like turning right on red, ignoring signs, and other infractions.
