Bankhead Highway signs chosen for transcontinental route
The Bankhead National Highway Association, at its third annual meeting in Mineral Wells Texas, contracted with the National Highway Marking Association to place reinforced concrete signs along a 3500 mile route from Washington to the Pacific coast. The first sign will be in Birmingham with a formal inauguration, as national and state officials attend. Competition is expected over routing the Central Texas Highway linking Florida and Colorado, with Brownwood hosting a convention on June 9.

Alabama officials from counties along the Bankhead National Highway will join city leaders and road boosters in ceremonies for the road marking. Moving pictures of the first sign erection will be shown nationwide. Senator Bankhead may attend if possible. Hockaday will tour cities counties and states to engage officials in the marking efforts.

Milam to Receive Government Trucks for Roads
Milam county officials led by County Judge W. G. Gillis and County Engineer A. S. Mitchell announce that Milam will get a pro rata share of army trucks furnished by the State Highway Department. The trucks will be loaned at a nominal rate and are expected to be available about July 1.

Milam County Awards Contract for Concrete Road Repair
At its regular meeting Milam County Commissioners Court let a contract to J A Barmore for repairing and rebuilding the concrete strip on the Cameron Tracy road near Little River Bottom. The job will start at once and be rushed to completion with Barmore leading. The contract also covers rebuilding and repairing steel components.
