Prohibition Defeated in Caldwell County by Large Margin

Prohibition lost by Caldwell County with estimates of about 1500 in favor. A severe storm hit Chilton Falls County last Friday night, unroofing several houses and tossing others from their blocks with no lives lost. Commencement week at Sam Houston Normal is noted with thanks to Milam County students and UT invitation for June 8-11, 1902. Bessie Agnes Dwyer of San Antonio to be first Texas woman with Bachelor of Laws. The Transvaal War ended, England saved from Crimea era tax, with 1069 officers and 20,897 men lost, 825 million dollars spent, 37,000 Boers captured, and Boer force starting at 50,000.

City Council Holds Session Approves Budgets and Ordinances

The Cameron City Council met at City Hall on Tuesday at 5:30 pm with Aldermen Rendor absent and Boyles late. Minutes were approved. finances reviewed as taxes, street cleaning, repairs, and fines reported. An equalization board was set, a poll and ad valorem levy authorized, and occupation taxes debated for next year.
