Texas Water Plan Aims at Vast Network Across State
Governor Connally and the Texas Water Development Board outlined a sweeping plan to meet 2020 water needs with 54 new reservoirs, $1 billion in waste treatment in 21 metros, and a $1.5 billion canal and pipeline system moving surplus water from the Red River basin to Dallas–Fort Worth, Brazos and Colorado basins, and finally to the Gulf Coast. The plan envisions river transfers to boost upstream storage and guide river authorities, with 27 hearings starting June 17 in Lubbock and Lone View and a final version to be adopted in August.
