Future beef cattle type may blend breeds across the board
Livestock expert Ed Uvacek told a Dallas advisory panel that the future meat type steer may not belong to any current breed and could be a mix of mavericks, even dairy crosses. He predicts the focus will shift from marketing through the animal to identifying the most feed efficient, high yielding cattle for market. The piece notes Milam County’s beef industry and traces the cattle evolution from longhorns to today’s varied beef cattle. It also covers local graduation news from Buckholts, Rogers, and Milano with dates, speakers, and top graduates.
