Legion Aluminum Swim Party Nets 124 Kids In Aluminum

The American Legion swimming event at the Municipal Pool drew 124 children on Monday. Each child contributed two to three aluminum pieces, with around 300 pieces thrown over the wire into Cameron's aluminum pen after the party. E. W. Canvas Days Planned for Boy Scout Aluminum Drive

Grady Little announces Thursday and Friday as canvas days to collect aluminum for the Home Defense Council. Housewives urged to set aside usable aluminum. Cameron residents will be contacted. Drive ends around August 1 after a newspaper error about July 22.

The Midget Press Out of Commission

The Daily Midget’s automatic Kluege press failed Wednesday as two brushes in its motor wore out. The paper moved to another press and ordered replacements from Dallas with possible shipment from St. Paul. Swimming Hole Sees First Victim in Curry Pit

The body of nine year old Melford Jackson was found in a gravel pit near Curry early Wednesday. The coroner ruled drowning as the cause of death after an inquest at 2:14 a.m. No companion was found. the boy may have gone to the pool Tuesday afternoon.

Meek Dies At Home In Rice Community

Virgil T Meek died July 14 at about 1 a m at Jack Wilson's home in the Rice Community. Born November 8 1900 he was a carpenter and truck driver formerly with Barrett Lumber Company. R D Brown 70 a native of Texas and longtime Cameron business leader and former City Secretary and Treasurer died at home after years of ill health.
