Lt Sam Oliver an instructor at Goodfellow Field San Angelo trains pilots on twin engined bombers. He began service in 1942 after early schooling in Buckholts and Yee High School class of 1934, later working for Coca Cola in Cameron before joining the Army Air Corps. He earned wings at Ellington Field Houston in 1942 and was posted at San Angelo to teach bomber pilots. Oliver has appeared in film flight segments with Paramount Fox Movietone Universal News and AP. He is the son of J H Oliver of Buckholts.

Cameron native Pvt. Merritt dies in Japanese camp
Pvt Thomas A Merritt a Cameron native and Coast Artillery Corps veteran of the Philippines under General MacArthur is reported dead in a Japanese prisoner of war camp. His father M M Merritt of Rockdale says a Washington message may explain more details. He was 25, would have turned 26 in August.

Funeral Held For Marion L Waller In Milano
Marion L Waller 74 died at his Milano home Saturday July 10 1948 after three years of illness. A former Dallas Fort Worth architect he is survived by his wife Marion Lee Waller and children M L Waller Jr Fort Worth Mrs 0 W Byas Mexia Temple D Waller and Mrs Oliver Hinojosha Rio Grande City. Services 2 30 pm Monday July 12 were conducted by Rev Shirey at the Milano Methodist church with interment in Milano cemetery. Green Funeral Home Cameron directed. Waller was a Mason and Knight of Pythias. Pallbearers named.

Two Injured In Car Crash Near Cameron
In a near fatal wreck on the river road east of the city Mrs. George Black and Mrs. Joe Robinson were injured and hospitalized. Williard Richards and Johnny Lee Bell were jailed after the crash involving the Staton car pursued by the Rockdale group. Deputy Sheriff Carl Black led the response and Criminal District Attorney Eda Gunn planned charges pending reports on injuries.
