State Tax Funds Show Increase in 1976 Revenues
Comptroller Bob Bullock reported Texas major tax funds totaled just over 4 billion in 1976, a 16.8 percent rise from 1975. Natural gas tax up 48.1 percent, sales tax up 18.2 percent, motor vehicle sales tax up 31.6 percent, and franchise tax up 35.5 percent. Bullock said 1976 was strong for business and workers as consumer spending surged. He projected the Legislature would have 2.9 billion more revenue for the next budget period, 34 percent above 1975 levels.
