Kubiak to Speak to Cameron PTA About Education

Rep Dan Kubiak of Rockdale newly named chairman of the House Education Committee will address Cameron Parent-Teacher Association Thursday February 1 in the Ben Milam cafeteria at 7 30 p m. This is one of two February talks Kubiak will make to Milam County school groups. He has served three terms and was appointed committee chair by Speaker Price Daniel Jr. at the 63rd Legislature start.

Officials View Downtown Urban Renewal

Officials from Lancaster Texas met Cameron city and urban renewal officials Monday to review the Cameron project and discuss plans for a Lancaster center-block mall and parking area. Ken Brown led the five member Lancaster Urban Renewal Agency team that toured remodeled Cameron buildings and discussed procedure problems and a Cameron project meeting at the First National Bank conference room.

Alcoa Unveils New Smelting Process for Aluminum

Alcoa disclosed it has filed patents on the Alcoa Smelting Process, a new electrolytic method aimed at producing primary aluminum with up to 30 percent less electricity than the Hall process. The system promises fewer emissions, better power interruption tolerance, lower operating costs, and sites with greater location flexibility. Initial unit capacity targets 15 000 tons per year, with potential 30 000 tons, and a 300 000 ton facility planned pending first unit results.
