Texas Taxpayers Face Major Share of Federal Budget
The Texas State Chamber of Commerce estimates Texans would pay about 24.16 billion dollars of the 440 billion federal budget for the 1978 fiscal year starting October 1 1977. The report notes Texas bears 5.49 percent of all federal taxes and that Congress changes could alter the amount. East Texas officials say the region alone would bear nearly 13 billion, while overall outcomes depend on Carter administration proposals and congressional action.
