L. A. Doree, a war veteran, becomes Milam County’s first ex-soldier to buy land with a Texas veteran loan. Emory B. Camp, local attorney, handled the deal. Doree purchased 150 acres from R. A. McCoy of Rosebud in Clarkson Community for 4800 dollars.
Applications for payments to ex prisoners of war and their dependents are now being received by the War Claims Commission. Five groups are entitled under the War Claims Act: ex prisoners of war, dependents of prisoners of war civilian internees, dependents of civilian internees and religious organizations. County Service Officer H. B. McClellen has forms and will assist with applications, urging dependents of deceased prisoners of war to provide letters from War and Navy Departments and prison correspondence to complete the filing.
The House Agriculture Committee approved a measure to limit cotton acreage cuts under the allotment act and move it to the floor. Chairman Cooley of North Carolina said he would report the bill and seeks early House action to ease growers internal inequities. The measure caps cuts at 30 percent and allows county level reallocation. It also broadens amendments to wheat and peanut allotments, with peanuts adding 100 194 acres mainly for Alabama and Texas.
Officers were installed at a joint meeting of the Marlin Burlington and Cameron Sons of Hermann lodges at the Odd Fellows hall. Fred T. Feldoff of Waco district supervisor and grand president P L Bergun of Burlington and Phil Krause of Burlington installed Cameron Burlington and Marlin officers. Lunch followed the meeting.
We thank friends and neighbors for kindness after the death of our son Roger Thomas Hitt. Gratitude goes to those who sent flowers from M-Sgt. and Mrs. Dee Hitt and Mr. and Mrs. R. T. Delahunty among other relatives.
The many friends of A W Burnett of Route 3 Cameron will be glad to hear he is among the patients ill and in St Edwards Hospital.
The Parker and Rice families thank friends and neighbors for kindness during illness and after the death of grandmother and aunt Lucinda Elizabeth Richards. They express thanks to Phillip and Luckey Funeral Home and to those who sent flowers.
Mr and Mrs J H Robertson of Rivera visited Cameron Saturday to see Mrs A J Johnson who is seriously ill at home. They plan to see Mrs A J Blassenz and Mrs J B Boyd of Rosebud before returning home. The Robertsons are former Cameron residents.
