Dr George T McMahan of the Waco Veterans Administration Center explains a presidential proclamation that ends eligibility for certain Korean era GI Bill education benefits after January 31 1986 Those who join after that date lose eligibility upon discharge while those who enlisted before retain limited benefits including the possibility of a $1 disbursement
The proclamation sets end dates for Korea era benefits. GI Bill training must finish by January 31, 1963, eight years after the emergency period ends, or earlier if a veteran leaves service. Vocational rehabilitation ends January 31, 1964, or nine years after release, whichever is earlier, with limited extensions for hardship cases.
On Gordon Baskin’s Elm Ridge farm one third of land uses legume cover crops to protect and enrich soil. The program improves soil texture and nitrogen supply, aided by inoculation and phosphate fertilizer, with demonstrations showing yield and profit gains. Conservation agencies through the ACP program offer about half the fertilizer cost.

A 1953 survey analyzing electric range users’ bills over 12 months found that a family of 3 to 4 could cook electrically for about 2.53 dollars per month on average. The study noted TP and L electricity for cooking ranged from 0.53 dollars to 5.13 dollars monthly, even for large families.
