15 Blue Ribbons Awarded At Junior Livestock Show Here
The Danish classification system was used to award prize money at the Junior Livestock Show. Swine division awarded eight blue ribbons worth 9.60 each, eight red 7.20, and ten white 4.60 with 2.40 per point. beef and dairy division gave seven blue ribbons at 12.00, twelve red at 9.00, and eight white at 6.00. Ferral Angell won Grand Champion Hereford steer. Rex McClaren took Grand Champion Dairy Class and Reserve Champion Hereford steer. Johnny Gelner won Reserve Daily Champion for Holstein Heifer. Other winners include Alton Moran in Bred Duroc Gilt and Rockdale FFA for Duroc Boar. multiple firsts, seconds, and showmanship honors listed for various divisions and contestants from Cameron, Buckholts, Holland, Thorndale, Burlington, Rockdale, and nearby towns.

Former Cameron Resident Dies Suddenly
Mrs. Carl Jones died at her Bryan area home on Saturday January 1 at 7 am. She leaves her husband, two sons Neal and Jimmy, and was expectant with a third child. Survived by her mother, sister, four brothers, and a half brother. She had lived in Cameron briefly and in Pomona California during World War II. She was the former Don Neal, born in Milam County.

Postal Receipts Reach New High at Cameron Post Office
In 1954 Cameron post office posted total receipts of 87000 for all classes, up from 79000 in 1953, marking the largest year in the post office history. Postmaster J R Mays says new mail routes will start once street signs and house numbers are completed, with areas of the Green Addition to gain service.

Blaze Destroys Four-Room House on Nolan Street
A four room home at 401 S Nolan St occupied by Alma Williams was totally destroyed by a Tuesday afternoon fire at 4 20. Fire Marshall John Eanes said the origin is unknown with a strong north wind aiding the flames. The lone resident was away. no water was available locally so Cameron Fire Department used a Booster Tank to prevent spread. The house was partially insured and losses were estimated at 1700 dollars.

Milam County recorded 21 influenza cases in the week ending January 15, Dr. John B. Bryson reports. Strept throat infections reached 11, pertussis seven, mumps six, and two gonorrhea cases were noted in the weekly health unit summary.

Inscribed Victory Bell Delivered to Yoe High
The 92 pound Victory Bell presented by the Sando Railroad Company moved from Rockdale to Cameron Friday morning and will be on display at Yoe High School for two to three days. Etched on the bell are Victory Bell Cameron 13 Rockdale 12 1954. Layfield cited inscription delay and noted the bulky bell has no fixed location yet. Two Rockdale students helped bring it, hoping it fosters friendly rivalry between the schools.
