The Death Car used by Clyde Barrow and Bonnie Parker will be shown at Hefley-Stedman Motor Company in Cameron on Thursday January 19 from 1 p m to 9 p m. The event includes a lecture by C Wiley Stanley and Everett Fillingham and aims to illustrate the government crime crackdown with a nationwide tour. Ministers officials and police are invited to view the car and hear the brief explanation of the killings and the bandits careers.
In district court this week two Black defendants were sentenced to jail after being indicted by a grand jury for theft of four chickens. The state sought a penitentiary term but defense attorney Jack Lewis secured jail sentences. A third defendant, Johnny Mayberry, faced postponement of his theft trial.
Three Milam county rural schools have installed visual aid equipment recommended by the State Department of Education. Branchville Curry and Sharp have acquired the moving picture machine and their schools are expected to use the equipment soon. Films rented from the State University extension department aim to boost student interest and comprehension.
Texas State Employment Service reports December job placements for 213 people under local manager R. C. Moody. Six openings went to unemployment compensation claimants. The office has 79 initial and 622 continuing unemployment insurance claims since December 1.
Cheeves Bros store in Cameron announces its annual clearance sale stretching for several weeks. A large display ad details store wide price reductions and advantages during the event.
Mr. and Mrs. Lester Glass and Mrs. Bob McCown spent Tuesday in Waco for a visit and errands, returning the same day.
Charlie Ottmer of Thorndale was indicted on burglary charges in district court. He allegedly planned with a partner who testified, avoiding prosecution for that participant. Ottmer faces two felony indictments as trial postponements occurred due to attorney absences.
At the January meeting of the Milan County Public Health Board Miss Louise Lentz was introduced to succeed Miss Pearl Fulcrod as public health nurse. Miss Davis outlined a prospective Trailer Clinic visit planned for later this month and discussed preparatory work for the Tuberculosis Division of the State Department of Health.
Henry M. Hefley was unanimously re-elected president of the First National Bank of Cameron at the annual stockholders meeting. R. H. McIntosh becomes Board president, with Mrs. S. W. Cheeves as vice president. George Waller remains cashier and A. K. Guercky assistant cashier as directors and officers return for a new year.
A commercial basketball league was announced by Coach L. C. Wood of Yar High School with teams Yarrell ton Ben Arnold A and W Sales Company Jones Prairie Buckholts and Cameron faculty. Play starts January 19 at 7 pm in Cameron Gymnasium with three games each Thursday for five weeks and championship games in weeks six and seven.
Funeral services for Frank Skala aged Clarkson resident were held Monday January 2 1939 at 230 pm with Rev Layne Caldwell and Rev Toe Tmisek officiating. He died January 1 1959. Survived by wife three sons Frank Jr Louis Joe all of Clarkson and one daughter Mrs John Malik of Thrall Interment Woodland Cemetery Rosebud
Clifton Albright was severely injured Tuesday morning when a train struck his car as he drove to work in Houston. He is cousin to Mrs. Emory B. Camp of Cameron. Camp and attorney E. B. Camp departed Cameron early Tuesday to investigate the accident.
Funeral services for Mrs. Mary Younts, five, who died at her daughter’s home near Cameron, were held Sunday at 4 30 p m at Green Lake Cemetery in Rogers. Rev A J McCary officiated. She survived by eight children, all but one of whom attended the funeral.
W R Kirland formerly of Cameron died at his niece Mrs Mattie Dell Webb’s Dallas home on Monday January 9 and was buried at Wolf City Tuesday afternoon. He and his late wife lived in Cameron with daughter Mrs Albert Schiller for years and were well known locally. Albert Schiller of Schiller Motor Company attended the funeral.
Mr and Mrs F A Kolba and Mrs Sneed and daughter Geraldine of North Elm spent Sunday with Mr and Mrs F A Marek at their home.
A partnership formed by KK A Camp of Rockdale and Emory B Camp of Cameron will locate a new firm in Cameron. KK A Camp continues to reside in Rockdale while Emory B Camp will reside in Cameron. Offices are temporary in the First National Bank building.
Mrs. Mary Thiwood Camp wife of A M Camp of San Gabriel dies at her daughter’s home in Rockdale aged 69. A native of Georgia she moved to Texas in 1883 residing in Burnett County and San Gabriel. Funeral in San Gabriel Christian Church with Rev H E Crone and Rev Willis. burial at Locklin Cemetery Milam County. Survived by husband A M Camp of San Gabriel.
Royal P Jeter 59 died suddenly at her Cameron home from a heart attack Friday morning. Funeral services were held January 7 at 1 pm from the Jeter home with Rev J P Love officiating. Interment was in Oak Hill cemetery. pallbearers included family and local figures. The Jeter Lumber Co. was a Cameron landmark. her husband Royal Jeter died in 1985. A son John Jeter remains in local business.
Coach L C Wood announced no split district this year as 26 becomes 38 with Belton Taylor Rockdale Joseinid Georeytown Granger Killeen Cameron replacing Thrall. New rule limits disqualifications and assigns one club per era for eligibility checks before play. Cameron schedule includes Rockdale Granger Mexico City Georgetown Taylor Killeen Belton Rosebud. opens Sept 22 and Nov 24.
Cameron Rotarians heard a talk by Les ter Glass of Glass the Florist on the growth of the floral industry in Texas and his Cameron shop. He discussed small town florist challenges and how rapid transportation improved flower selection. He noted carnations grow best in Colorado, while California flowers often require hot houses.
John Young of Cameron was named top salesman for Red Arrow Drug Co. in Fort Worth for the year. He received a wrist watch from the company president at the annual meeting. Young, the youngest member of the sales force, led all reps in volume sales and was elected club president for 19389.
Sheriff Kennedy raided an unoccupied tract between Hoyte and Milano and confiscated a fifty gallon still. He also found six gallons of whiskey in a vacant Cameron area house along with 150 gallons of mash seven barrels a 15 gallon keg and a five gallon crock. No arrests were reported and no one was nearby the site during the raid.
