Joe Richter, a 20 year memo and former Night Marshal, announced as a candidate for Cameron City Marshal ahead of the February 1, 1944 primary. A Cameron native and World War I veteran, he cites long service, Fire Marshal duties, and co operation with past administrations as credentials. He plans to canvass voters and seeks votes to deliver his experience and training.

D R Criswell 85 trail driver and Texas pioneer died at home in Buckholts at 7 p m Sunday January 2 1944. Milam county resident since 1883 he served as Justice of Peace for Precinct 6 for 50 years. Funeral January 4 at First Methodist Buckholts with Masonic services and burial at Corinth.
Lee McLane acting chair issues notice for the City of Cameron announcing a February 1 Democratic primary listing officials to be nominated including Mayor two Aldermen City Attorney Assessor and Collector of Taxes Secretary and Treasurer and City Marshal. The general city election is in April for two year terms.
Funeral services for A W Boyd 95 will be held Sunday at Minerva announced by Neil Ethridge. Boyd died in Dallas December 31 1943 while wintering with granddaughter Elizabeth Burden. Born in South Carolina he lived in Texas and was a pioneer Presbyterian member. Interment will be at Minerva after arrival of the body. Earlier he lived at Walkers Creek and with Neil Ethridge. Also mention of Ben Phillips and Valeria Hayes welcoming a baby girl January 3 at Cameron Hospital.
Battle veteran Pfc William Neal Bailey volunteered for the armed forces on July 4 1942. He trained at Toccoa Ga and St George Meade MD then went overseas landing in northwest Africa on November 25 1942. He served in the Tunisian Campaign with the 1st Division under Major General Patton and the 7th Army, fought in Sicily, was treated for shell shock on August 8 1942, and later served in Military Police in North Africa.
Jim M Goldrick a longtime Cameron police officer and World War I veteran announces his bid for City Marshal subject to the Democratic primary. He notes 18 months on the force plus prior border peace officer service and two years of foreign combat duty with three wounds. He cites leadership roles in American Legion Edwin Hardy Post No 9 and Veterans of Foreign Wars Ben Milam Post, plus active civic ties including the Cameron Lions Club.
Milam County must raise 1.52 million for the Fourth Treasury Loan with 274000 allocated to E bonds for individuals. War Loan Director Chas M Hicks reports a Dallas based Texas Loan Drive plan and a county meeting for workers to promote the drive starting January 18.
Ray Lester has acquired the Pearl Beer distribution rights and ice station services in Cameron from Mrs. Little. The deal, announced by the San Antonio Brewing Association, transfers control of the business and all transportation equipment as Lester becomes the new distributor in this territory.
Funeral services for Richard Neal were held at 2 30 p m Thursday December 30 1948 at Reed Lake Cemetery Bell county. He died in a local hospital at 3 30 p m Thursday after several weeks illness. Neal a native of Bell county was born in Temple in 1884 and worked 18 years for the city of Temple before moving to Cameron. Surviving are his widow three brothers Bob Neal Abilene Jim Neal Temple Henry Neal Rogers and one sister Mrs B F Thornton Temple.
Dennis J. Kubecka is listed among 245 cadets in the preflight program at the San Antonio Aviation Cadet Center. The nine week course trains future Army Air Forces pilots aiming for the silver wings, with cadets from Texas including Cameron, Cameron residents Ida Foster and others.
Mr. McGoldrick plans to meet every voter in the city to gain support pledging a courteous campaign free of bitterness. If he misses you he will still appeal for your vote and promises to repay the public confidence with full service after election.
Giles McDermott of Cameron serving in the Pacific was killed in action, confirmed by a Washington telegram to his brother John McDermott of Beaumont. Parents Mr and Mrs John McDermott, long residents of Cameron now in Beaumont, await formal notification while son Robert E. McDermott serves in England.
Carl Weems has been wounded in action in Italy per War Department notice to his parents Mr and Mrs J M Weems of Maysfield. The report confirms he has been wounded while serving.
