Milam and Areans report Alcoa executive Fred Bergeron urged the Rockdale school board to adopt a master plan for future growth noting the time is ripe. He cited a new generating unit by Texas Power & Light at Rockdale Works and Shell Oil lignite mining by 1980 or 1981. Bergeron also urged city and county master planning.

Airline to suspend Waco operations shocks officials
Texas International Airlines announced it will suspend service to Waco citing tottering finances. TI Vice-President Jim Cassady said the decision was prompted by the company's weak finances and that a petition to the Civil Aeronautics Board seeking permission to suspend service will be filed on April 1.

Six Fire Calls Keep Volunteers On The Move
Cameron volunteer firemen battled six calls amid strong winds on Wednesday. Four grass fires occurred at Hoyte Griffin Chapel and Titsworth farm. a car fire and a false alarm followed. Rockdale firefighters tackled a church fire at the old Methodist Church in Minerva and four grass fires in Rockdale. Two calls came in Thursday, one a grass fire on the old Minerva cutoff, with the second canceled as controlled.

J A Whittenburg III of the Texas and Southwestern Cattle Raisers Association urges ranchers and farmers to apply for agricultural productivity valuation before April 30.
