Fourteen vie for Alcoa scholarships at Rockdale Works

Buckholts Museum Showcases Historic Artifacts and Displays
Buckholts Museum features a piano, pearls from a wedding gown, a 100 year old cash register, a corn sheller, a hand cranked siren, Indian artifacts, a Victrola, 1912 ladies shoes, and an antique iron ruffler. The old Buckholts State Bank building houses city hall and the museum which plans April 8 open day with a bake sale to raise funds. The museum began during Buckholts Bicentennial preparations in 1975 and opened publicly on July 4, 1976.

Library board weighs microfilm system purchase

Drunk Charges Filed Against La Grange Couple
A LaGrange couple were jailed Sunday night on charges of driving while intoxicated and public drunkenness after their car struck two parked pickups near the Milam Burleson county line. Chris Berry drove the vehicle. Arrow Oilfield Construction Co. pickups suffered heavy and light damage respectively. Mrs. Berry faces a drunkenness charge. Buckholts area residents helped open and maintain a local museum funded by bake sales and utilities cover. The committee seeks an old home to house exhibits.

Sugar Loaf Raid Nets Nine Arrests In Milam County
Milam County sheriff's officers and Milano Constable J T Morgan arrested nine Sunday after a raid on Sugar Loaf Mountain. Seven men from Bryan College Station area pleaded guilty to marijuana possession, fined $150 and given 30 day jail terms probated. Two men were charged with trespassing and fined $107.50 each. A separate break‑in at Village Courts in Rockdale led to an ongoing investigation into stolen clothing, jewelry, a pistol, a stereo and a CB radio.

GED Tests Scheduled in Cameron on Two Saturdays
County School Supt Max McClaren announced GED tests will be held on February 26 and March 5 in the Ben Milam School building Cameron. Tests start at 8 30 p m and are administered by Jack Ruzicka with a $10 charge for the whole test or $2 per section. Three parts are on the first Saturday and two parts on the second. Passing the GED grants the equivalent of a high school diploma.
