Poultry Show And Banquet Set By Cameron Chamber Panel

The Cameron Chamber of Commerce Poultry Committee schedules a Milam County poultry program with baby chicks distributed at 4 p.m. Friday March 12 on the courthouse lawn. The show and banquet occur May 8 to aid 4 H and FFA youth in a broiler raising contest funded by fifty sponsors at ten dollars each.

Morris Frank, Houston Chronicle columnist and longtime newspaper figure, will be guest speaker at Cameron Chamber of Commerce annual banquet and membership meeting on March 9. The event at Methodist Fellowship Hall starts 7:30 p.m. with Ponderosa Restaurant catering. Cameron City Council Seeks Jail Repair Bids

Cameron officials voted to invite bids for jail repair work to improve adequacy. The council also discussed appointing an equalization board and noted no new filings in the city election. Incumbents Marek and Hickman seek re election with Zotz filing for Wied’s seat. March 6 is filing deadline.

Yee High School will host its annual Science Fair on March 2 and 3 with a record 151 projects across Biological, Physical, and Mathematical divisions. Physician Barkley Dies at 79 in Milam County

Dr. Thomas S. Barkley, 79, oldest county physician, died last Thursday at his Rockdale home after 52 years of practice in Milam County. Born 1885 in Rice, he earned a Southwestern University medical degree and served as professor at SMU medical school. He delivered 4000 babies, treated many without pay, and remained devoted to his patients and community.

Cameron Independent School Trustees to Meet in Special Session

Trustees of the Cameron Independent School District will meet Thursday at Ben Milam School to finalize work from the February meeting. The board will review the superintendent's recommendations on administrative personnel and likely act on them. They could not study a survey from a Texas committee on attitudes toward proposed education legislation due to time. No candidates had filed yet for the school election where President Niley J. Smith and Bob Wells post are up.
