Buckholts residents plan a full day celebration for the Bicentennial Homecoming with a church service, folk dancers, choirs, speakers, street dances, and two bands. Committees led by Pastor Charles Treptow and others coordinate worship food concessions art decoration publicity and booth participation. Ten percent of booth profits go to the Bicentennial fund to cover bands lights and decorations.
City subcommittees prepare reports due March 2 at 7 30 p m in the Brethren educational building Buckholts on civic pride and orderly streets.
The Texas House Interim Subcommittee on Mandatory Automobile Liability Insurance will hold public hearings in Austin on February 27 and 28 to gauge support for requiring all motorists to carry liability insurance. Chair R E Green notes Texas has uninsured drivers and high accident figures involving them. The hearings, in Room 310 Old Supreme Court 2 pm Friday and 10 am Saturday, invite testimony from all sides.
GED tests for Night Adult Education classes will be offered on February 21 and 28 starting at 8 30 a m at Yee High School Room 6 in Cameron. Tests administered by Jack Ruzicka, Milam County ABE Co op director, with a $10 per test fee. Includes Max McClaren comment as county school superintendent.
Milam County and surrounding area hold school trustee elections set for April 3. Cameron incumbents Forrest Sapp and Carol Barr seek re election while Frances Price J C Komar and Leroy Doskocil file for the first time. Buckholts Gause and county trustees also report filings and expirations.
Mayor Gene Blake announced to Cameron city council on Tuesday night he will not run again after four years in office. He expressed thanks to residents and said circumstances prevent re election. The race now has one candidate, Lawrence Zotz, with a filing deadline set for March 5.
