Cameron City moves toward first line emergency services with new equipment and surplus ambulance for volunteer firemen. The addition expands auxiliary capacity to handle rescue and emergency problems.

Odessa Poole has filed for election to Place 4 on the city council per City Secy Buddy Fuller. Other filings include Dale Smith for Place 4 and Tommy Corley for Place 3. Incumbents Jan Luecke seeks re election while Monroe Fuchs and Gene Lumpkin have not filed. School trustees include incumbents Calvin Cobb Betsy Brown and newcomer Becky Magre.
State Comptroller Bob Bullock reports Cameron sales tax refunds rose 16 percent in 1976 to 100 945.87 from 87 297.19 in 1975. The statewide average increase was 14 percent with Lott up 32 percent from 32 618 to 42 935. Other area gains include Rockdale 3 percent, Rogers 18 percent, Rosebud 8 percent, and Hearne 21 percent.
Cameron school trustees appointed Max Graham to become head coach and athletic director following Ed Cauley’s resignation to take a similar post in Lufkin. The vote to accept Cauley’s resignation was split, with four trustees voting to accept and two opposing.
Milam County commissioners authorized a two year contract with Thomas Y Pikcott Co of Dallas to survey and value oil gas and mineral property utilities railroads and industrial assets in the county amid questions on a five cent per hundred valuation rate for 1977 and 1978.
Supt Jimmy Hauk reports Buckholts School is cleared of warned status and now fully accredited following self evaluation and a five year plan submitted to the Texas Education Agency. Trustees appoint a tax equalization board and set April 2 trustee election roles.
Nine accidents across Milam and Cameron counties produced moderate to heavy property damage with no injuries. Incidents included a one car rollover near Rockdale, a cow pickup collision near Cavilla, two parked car hits in Cameron, a Farm Road 485 crash, a two pickup collision on Farm Road 486, and four Cameron police accidents.
Frederick Scott Albreight 18 remained in serious condition at Scott White Hospital Temple after being struck at Travis and Bigbee Streets Cameron by a 40 year old driver Edward Matula. Matula was charged with DWI.
