Bayer Signs With TCU Yoe Fullback Ernest Bayer

Ernest Bayer, a 195 pound Yoe High School back, signed a four year letter of intent with Texas Christian University in Fort Worth. TCU coach Fred Taylor said Bayer will start at fullback but may move to the line later and noted the four year scholarship and his status as a recent four year letterman graduate.

Grand Jury Session Set In Milam County

Milam District Attorney Jack Prescott announced a January term grand jury will meet at 10 a.m. Tuesday. Sixteen Milam County residents were called for duty. Cases to be presented include burglary and theft matters. No New Filings Reported for City and School Board Posts

City and School City officials said no new filings this week for School Board or City Council seats. Current filings include for the school board Charlie Burke Cameron business and civic leader and Niley Smith the incumbent member. For mayor and council positions are incumbent Mayor Coleman Duncum and councilmen Starrett Hickman Roy Griffith and Sam Houston.

Cameron Legion To Host District Meeting In April

Cameron American Legion Post prepares for about 159 delegates at the 7th American Legion District Convention in April. A special Edwin Hardy Post No 9 meeting is set for 7 30 p m on Wednesday February 21 to outline the program. The 11th District Convention will follow in April at Cameron National Guard Armory with Legionnaires from 10 posts and representatives from Waco Killeen Belton Rockdale Milano Marlin Rosenberg and other Cen Tex cities expected.

Services Held Here Monday For Mrs R A Triggs

Funeral services for Mrs. R. A. Triggs Sr. 77, were held Monday afternoon. Born October 26, 1884 in Franklin she died February 10 in a Temple hospital after living most of her life in Cameron. She belonged to the First Methodist Church with Rev Jewell Strong officiating. Burial was at Oak Hill Cemetery. Survived by husband R. A. Triggs Sr. of Cameron two sons Albert Triggs of Lubbock and George Triggs of Sharp one sister Miss Clara Thomas of Cameron, three grandchildren and five great grandchildren.

Schiller Named C of C President At Board Meeting

E. O. Schiller Jr was elected president of the Cameron Chamber of Commerce at the board meeting. He succeeds Richard Williams who served as president in 1961. O. B Harden and Jack Prescott were named first and second vice presidents. Eight new directors were elected for a three year term March 1962 to March 1965: Charlie Burke N L Caperton Albert Collins Jack Prescott Eugene Smitherman Bill Tolson Sam Tindall Lester Williams. Williams thanked directors for a successful 1961 chamber year.

Nine Grass Fires Reported in Milam County

Milam County saw nine grass fire calls last week answered by the Cameron Fire Department. One blaze near Jones Prairie scorched about 12 acres before containment. Fire Marshal John Eanes blamed careless cigarette and match disposal and trash burning for most of the incidents.
