Personal Service on Early Wichita Valley Rail Line
The article recalls how the Wichita Valley Railway between Wichita Falls and Seymour provided life saving water to thirsty farmers during a rainless era. Engineer Percy Jones or the line’s lone operator filled barrels from a tank car, earning thanks and neighborly praise. It also recounts tales of cattle claim disputes and a farmer’s clever delay by sending penny postcards referencing File No 8.

New Mexico's Oldest Press Preserved in Hatch Barn
A George Washington hand press believed to be the first printing brought into New Mexico is preserved in a Hatch farm barn. Its journey ran from Mesilla during the Civil War to Kingston during boom days, then to Hatch where the Hatch Reporter used it before upgrading. It survived river wrecks and auctions, later owned by Grover Cleveland Jessee, a printer with a 50-year NM career.
