First Catholic Church in Cameron Texas 1882 to 1907
A 1907 account outlines Cameron Milam County Catholic history from 1882 to 1907. Rev. Lennartz initiated church efforts, building Cameron’s brick church in 1890, with land donated by Mrs. David Myer. Subsequent pastors expanded worship, added St Anthony's school in 1902, a Sisters House in 1896, and a priest’s home in 1905. The 1904 church was later dedicated to St Monica with a 500-seat interior and German Bohemian and American parishioners.
