City Council Approves Street Maintenance Plan and Leases

The council approved a four page street plan for ongoing maintenance and upgrades, with a new permanent review committee and quarterly progress reports. It lists priority projects including paving upgrades and maintenance city wide. Leases for the Cameron Saddle Club arena and the Girl Scout Hut at Wilson Ledbetter Park were approved after discussions on lease terms.

In Milam County clerk office veteran Leo O Neill retires after 16 1 2 years of recording vital events and election returns. Cameron Yoemen Extend Tie In District 19 AA Race

Cameron Yoemen beat Caldwell 71-66 to stay tied atop District 19 AA with a 6-1 league mark. Willie White led Yoe with 26 points, Johnny Steamer 20, and Robert Brasher added 16. Caldwell's Jewell Dearman and James Butler matched 16 each as Caldwell claimed a close B team win 64-62. Caldwell also won the freshman game 54-45. The Yoemen head to Elgin Friday and host Georgetown next Tuesday.

Ernest F. Stuessel 69 of Mooreville died Sunday night in Rosebud hospital after a long illness. Born June 14 1900 in Burlington he was a retired farmer and Mooreville Methodist Church member. Rosebud ISD Bond Passes 6 to 1 Amid Consolidation Risk

Rosebud Independent School District approved a 1.3 million bond for a Travis area junior and senior high, winning 487 to 82. A second measure to change the maintenance tax code passed 510 to 74. Bond validity hinges on Rosebud and Lott district consolidation vote February 7. if consolidation fails, the bonds and building plans may be void.

Oak Hill Addition Nears Completion

Enlargement of Oak Hill Cemetery is moving toward completion with land leveling and tree planting by city workers. The three and a half acre addition, purchased from the Louise Green estate, adjoins the south side of the present cemetery and will hold 1250 graves. The plan designates no curbing and specifies access by street or walkway, with a babies section half the size of regular lots. City approval is required for tree planting and a perimeter fence will enclose the new area.

Fuchs Files For City Council In Cameron

Monroe Fuchs has filed for City Council Place 2 in Cameron, challenging incumbent Bob Wells who has not filed for re election. Incumbents Lester Turner and Mayor E A Perrin filed for re election. filing deadline is March 6 for the April 6 election at City Hall. Fuchs runs Ideal Hatcheries executive and is active in civic and Chamber groups.

Tickets For Yoe Banquet On February 16 In Cameron

Tickets are on sale for the annual Yeoman Football Banquet at 7 p.m. February 16 in the Methodist Fellowship Hall Cameron. Booster Club members sell tickets for $2 each. Guest speaker is Catfish Smith former Baylor freshman football coach now on Baylor PR staff. The 1969 Yeoman will receive a silver trophy and the Football Sweetheart will be named. Other Booster Club awards include Booster of the Year.

Rites for W. Turner

Weldon E. Hoss Turner 55 died early Saturday en route to a Temple hospital after a long illness. He was a retired Army sergeant and lifelong Cameron resident. Full military rites were held Tuesday at Green's Funeral Home chapel with burial in Oak Hill Cemetery. Surviving: son Spec. Robert Turner in Vietnam, daughter Mrs. Gary Bishop of Cameron, three sisters Mrs. Perch Gooch Mrs. Ennis Bentchler Mrs. Harry Sappington, brother Alys Turner, and one grandchild.

Hilliard Thomas Attends Federal Bank Conference

Hilliard S. Thomas president of Citizens National Bank Cameron and Texas Bankers Association official joined a TBA delegation in Washington January 29 30 to discuss fiscal and monetary policy impacting banks. They met with FDIC Treasury and OCC officials the Federal Reserve Board and the Export Import Bank and visited the American Bankers Association in DC and Texas congressmen.
