Milam County reports the J. M. Huber Corporation No. 2 H. H. Coffield Unit flowed 84 barrels of 24 gravity oil from the Basal Wilcox, completed at 2,761 to 2,764 feet, with a 12/64 inch choke under 115 pounds. The discovery lies on 49 acres near Milano, six and a half miles south, near the Burleson County line, in a new Wilcox formation wildcat attracting state-wide interest. The Shell No. 2 Adone Estate in east Milam County pushed drilling depth to 14,091 feet, aiming for Smackover, possibly Buckner Lime.

About 20 Cameron business and professional men met with three hospital administrators and a hospital engineer to consider a new $1,000,000 St. Edward Hospital. Plans include a 50 bed facility with indigent care and $250,000 local funding, $259,000 Order investment, and $500,000 Hill Burton funds with a fund drive aimed this year. The project could take about two years after fundraising to build.

Cameron Tops Blood Quota With 86 Units
Cameron residents donated 86 units of blood Friday through the Central Texas Bloodmobile. Sister Aloysius of St. Edward Hospital, chair of the Red Cross Blood Program in Cameron, praised the overwhelming response and noted 22 new donors registered. Last year Milam County collected 933 units, with 262 in Cameron hospitals and 297 in Rockdale.

Steve Reiger Dies in Thorndale Merchant Remembered
Steve Rieger Jr., 58, Thorndale merchant and longtime Milam County figure, died Monday in an Austin hospital. Funeral services were held Wednesday at St. Paul Lutheran Church, with burial in the church cemetery. He owned Steve's Cash Store for 55 years and served as a charter member of the Thorndale Volunteer Fire Department. He was an honorary Chapter Farmer and was named Christian Layman of the Year in 1966. He is survived by his wife, his father Steve Reiger Sr., three brothers, two sisters, and other relatives. Pallbearers included local businessmen and fire department members.
