Two Alcoa Men Settle Indemnity Suits Out Of Court

Two Alcoa employees faced suits with the Texas Employers Insurance Association. Louis L. Parker's trial was set with jurors chosen but testimony not heard before a settlement ended that case and the Edward Garcia suit against the same insurer, scheduled for Monday February 6. A separate Thorndale case involving the City and C. Joe Evans Construction Co with about twenty five defendants including Milam County had a pre trial hearing but no reportable developments yet.

Mr and Mrs T W Grizzard of Tyler take ownership of the Cameron Corner Cafe after remodeling and reopening Monday. The couple bring over thirty years in the food business and plan to offer steaks sea foods Mexican food fried chicken and balanced lunches with a Sunday menu. Alcohol will not be sold and they praise Cameron residents for their hospitality.

City Adopts New Charter By Two To One Vote

Cameron voters approve a new city charter 330 to 154 ending 68 years under the old plan. The charter changes include appointive offices such as City Marshal City Clerk and City Attorney while maintaining current officers for now. The April 3 election date follows the charter vote.

New Cameron Armory Project Seeks 60 Thousand Cost

Blueprints show a larger Cameron Armory for Battery C 649th AA Artillery with private office classrooms a drill hall and locker areas. The $60 000 construction plan calls for tile and reinforced concrete on a 114 by 109 foot footprint with a 20 acre site donated by the Chamber of Commerce and local sponsors. Battery C notes the facility will relieve crowding as Guardsmen grow.

Friendship Youth Shot In Side By Accidental Shotgun Blast

James Bailes a 17 year old youth of the Friendship community was severely wounded by an accidental shotgun discharge at about 9 PM Sunday. The gun fired as he started to enter the house after his father Joe Bailes left to drive to Houston. He was taken to Newton Memorial Hospital with a large shoulder side wound and doctors predicted a good recovery after a brief hospital stay.

New Baby James W. Wiggs Jr Born in Cameron

James W. Wiggs Jr weighing five pounds ten ounces is born at St Edward Hospital Cameron on Tuesday January 21 at 7 16 PM to Mr and Mrs Jimmy Wiggs Sr of Cameron. He is the first grandchild of Mr and Mrs George Childress and marks the seventeenth January birth at the hospital with the baby’s blue diaper noted in the breeze.

Alliance Churches Plan Weeklong Cameron Revival

The Cameron Ministerial Alliance coordinates simultaneous revival meetings across all churches during March 11 to 18. Evening services start at 7 30 p m with preaching by pastors or visiting ministers. Morning sessions at Milam Theatre March 12 16 run 9 30 to 10 15 a m as joint services with a different minister daily. Employers urged to enable worker attendance.

Milam Aggie Mothers Donate To A&M Lectern

Milam County A and M Mothers Club met at Mrs. H. D. Maxwell in Rockdale and voted to donate 15 toward an elaborate lectern for A M College. They subscribed to Aggieland Annual for Yee High and Rockdale High School libraries. President Mrs. C W Hudson led the meeting.
