Funeral services for R B Mayes were held Sunday at Maysfield with burial at Little River Cemetery. He died January 20 1928 of pneumonia at age 49, survived by his widow Kittie Belle Newton Mayes and several children and siblings.

Two Milam Schools Declared Standard
State official F Van Winkle completed scoring for Milam County. Buckholts and Hoyte met all requirements to become standard schools. Buckholts expanded to seven teachers and added home economics and manual training with J Frank Cook as principal and staff. Hoyte earned first class elementary status with strong staffing and district trustees. Transportation to high schools enabled longer class periods and nine month terms.
