Cameron Livestock Auction Reopens January 6 in Cameron

Cameron Livestock Auction will reopen January 6 at a newly refinished Cameron barn bought by Lester and Jack Lawhorn who run the Temple Livestock Auction. O. A. White manages the sales with ringman Jack Lawhorn handling auctioneering and staff of about 29 to 32, offering cattle hogs horses and more with varied commission rates and eight cent brand inspection. The arena seats 350 to 400 and is air conditioned for year round comfort amid a new staff and service policy continuing from the Temple operation.

Two Boys Hurt On Motorscooter Near Cameron

Cameron youths Woodrow Zarosky and another teen were injured December 27 when their motorscooter skidded on Temple highway seven miles northwest of Cameron at 11 15 am. Zarosky suffered minor cuts while his companion had a head injury and was briefly unconscious. Holiday guests staying with Mr and Mrs W W Powell included Rev J H Glass and others from Cameron and Houston.

Democratic Committee Sets 55 Legislative Plans in Dallas

Mrs. Jud Collier, vice chair of Robertson County Democratic Executive Committee, attended a Dallas meeting of the Texas Democratic Women's State Committee. The group stressed 1955 legislative goals, including eliminating cross filing, poll tax wording changes, a consolidated primary funded by the state, and abolishing the poll tax as a voting prerequisite. The platform adds teacher retirement independence and Sam Houston home funding, with education tasks to curb armed state police at conventions, boost poll supervisors, and set political morality standards.

Presbyterians To Start Memorial Fund In Cameron

Reverend John Solomon announced that the Cameron Presbyterian Church members have created a Memorial Fund in memory of Mrs. Carl Black. The fund supports a Presbyterian student aid program for church members seeking college study. trustees will set final plans at their next meeting.

Tragic Santa Fe Crash Kills Mrs. Carl Black in Cameron

Mrs. Carl Black died when her car was struck by Santa Fe Chief No. 16 at mile post 184 Hanover crossing on Monday at 10 55 am. Debris and spare tire were found up to 460 feet away. Sheriff Carl Black and two children survive, with funeral held at First Presbyterian Church.

Cameron Council Tackles Odor Complaints From Privies

Cameron City Council aired a blanket complaint about outdoor privies odor within city limits. The council debated sewage enforcement, costs to tie onto the sewer line, and fairness to residents including nonfarm rentals. Mayor Horstmann noted many wish to connect but cannot afford facilities. Council postponed decisions, planning talks with Culpepper and offering a free estimate on development costs.

Milam County remains designated as a drouth area and an eligible loans area under the Farmers Home Administration. The extension runs to December 31, 1955. Roy M. Wright, County Supervisor, said applications are filed at the FHA county office.

Farmers Home Administration Loans Aid Local Farmers

In Milam County the Farmers Home Administration county committee approves loans for feed seed fertilizer and other essential farm and home operating costs. Emergency loans cover current expenses but not existing debts and repayment depends on the year's income with crop loans repaid from crop sale proceeds. Security includes a first lien on all crops produced with the loan and applicants must show reasonable prospects for success.
