Mr and Mrs F E Woodruff and their son spent Christmas in Tyler with Mrs Woodruff’s mother. She plans to return to Cameron later this week after a few days in Tyler.
The Cameron city political year opens with a potential February primary if called by the Precinct Democratic Executive Committee. Last year bypassed a primary and elected two Aldermen in April. If no nominations contest, a primary may not be held before the April general city election and school trustees vote. Four trustees face election. three Aldermen from 1937 remain. The calendar includes July and August primaries and a November general for county and state offices.
Jim Bob Crow longtime central figure in a Milam county murder case dies at his Millerton home pneumonia complications from influenza. He was indicted and tried for Miss Mollie White’s slaying but acquitted after years of reversals and hung juries. Funeral held at Salty church with burial beside his wife.
Dr Clarence E Gilmore of Paris is announced as first grand prize winner in the Lone Star Gas System photograph contest which closed Dec 18 His award is 100 Geo I Fet zer of Dallas received second prize This item appears on page 10 of the edition.
Green & Boedeker hardware store launches a year start sale as it closes out barbed wire and stoves. Mr. Green notes a good year and anticipates strong farm supply demand with heavy stocks and brisk business expected in the new year.
J. P. Fontaine, 78, pioneer resident of Jones Prairie, died at his home in Jones Prairie at 10 45 Saturday night December 25. Funeral services were held Sunday afternoon December 26 at 3 30.
Fred Astaire stars with George Burns and Grace Allen in RKO musical A Damsel in Distress based on a P G Wodehouse tale with Gershwin tunes. Opens Sunday January 2 at Cameron Theatre with Joan Fontaine as the lead and a cast including Reginald Gardiner and Montague Love.
Miss Ada Mae Hinman of Baird arrives in Cameron to assume duties as assistant Home Demonstration agent for Milam county. She will oversee 4H Club work previously led by Miss Imogene LaGrome, who leaves for Hamilton to become Hamilton county home agent.
B F Stewart of Stewart Grocery in Cameron says prices have declined and he has lowered stock costs and new purchases to match. He announces a New Year sale with reduced prices on a wide range of food items for shoppers.
Swift Thea tres Inc releases January entertainment program early to inform patrons of big time pictures. Major titles include Conquest with Garbo Rosalie Hollywood Hotel Stella Dallas Angel Bad Man of Brimstone featuring Wallace Beery.
Mr Chas Wolf and John Wolf of Oklahoma City and Miss Minnie Wolf of Dallas visit their mother widow of Captain J B Wolf and Miss Nell Wolf for the holidays. The mother has been ill for some time.
Among the holiday visitors in Cameron were Mr. and Mrs. Milton Lehm berg of Houston. They visited in the home of Mr. and Mrs. B. F. Bailey.
Cameron audiences are offered The Last Gangster starring Ed ward G Robinson in his iconic role as Joe Krozac. Rose Stradner debuts as his wife Talya in this crime drama about a gangster whose ruthless career ends with a ten year prison sentence for income tax evasion.
Chamber officials say the annual Christmas Tree and party drew higher than expected attendance with 1500 bags given to children. Rain and cold delayed the party from Wednesday to Thursday night and a public notice procedures were affected. Hon. A. J. Lewis delivered an address and the entertainment committee led by Emory B. Camp will file a final report.
The Cameron Herald plant will be closed Saturday January 1 for a one day vacation. It will reopen Monday for regular business. The Herald office remains open for subscription payments and visitors to the museum. Staff extend New Year wishes to all members.
The American Legion will outline the New Year program at the regular meeting Tuesday night. BE. W. Streetman adjutant reports important business to be transacted and urges all members to attend.
Congressman Bob Poage of Waco spent Tuesday in Cameron meeting friends. He outlined a plan to pay farmers 20 cents per pound for cotton allocated to American use and sell the rest abroad, as he warned Congress may still act on farm relief.
Clyde Tyson 40, a traveling representative for a wholesale grocery firm, was killed instantly when a revolver he was cleaning discharged at his Hillsboro residence. He was born in Branchville and lived in Cameron, Calvert, and Austin, surviving a widow Winnie McCall of Rogers, a daughter, and multiple siblings and relatives. Funeral services were held in Hillsboro with interment there.
