New Officers to Be Sworn In Monday in County
Newly elected county and district officers along with incumbents will take oath on Monday January 2 for four year terms. District Judge W. Gillis will succeed Judge J Watson. Judge Watson plans to practice in the First National Bank building. S. M. Burns will be criminal district attorney for a two year term, succeeding Jack Lewis. Bailey, Stidham, and Clyde Moore will also assume new county offices and precincts.

Man Under Bond For Murder Near Rockdale
Chas. Stamford was arrested at his Lee County home after the fatal Christmas Eve shooting of Luther Pickens in the Hamilton Chapel area. Stamford, who was visiting his wife, exchanged words with Pickens and reportedly fired twice as Pickens stepped between them, killing him. He was detained on bond due to illness.

Boy Scout Meeting Closes With Yuletide Cheer
At the Friday night gathering 19 members attended including the scoutmaster, Ommitteeman Kunz, Grand Knight R A Michalka, nine scouts and six visitors. The group exchanged greetings, songs, a Christmas poem, and a ghost story with effects before wishing a Happy New Year. Scout Ernest Michalka returned home from St Edwards University for the holidays.

Clues Fail to Solve Murder of Andrew Smith
The December 21 murder of merchant Andrew Smith remains unsolved. Two State Rangers aided Sheriff Blaylock as three Mexicans and a Black man were held, blood evidence allegedly inconclusive, a knee print near the store cited, and investigators traced tracks without proving robbery as motive. Smith lived alone at 607 West 15th Street and died after being found at 7 am December 22. funeral was held Friday with Oak Hill cemetery burial.

Mrs. Clara Anthis Buried in Milano
Mrs. Clara Anthis 32 wife of Henry Anthis died at her Milano home on December 22. Funeral held at 2:30 p.m. at the home by Rev. Strickland. Interment in Milano cemetery. Born August 15, 1900 in Mississippi, she taught in Milano High School and contracted pneumonia after illness. Green Brothers handled arrangements.
