Texas launches cervical cancer screening in East and West regions
A three year grant of 732 787 funds a Texas screening push for cervical cancer among low income women in Regions 3 and 7 with El Paso and Tyler as headquarters. The program aims for 24 000 tests across six counties and 35 counties respectively. Early detection yields high cure rates, with Pap tests guiding follow up biopsies and other procedures as needed. Cancer remains a leading death cause with 17 546 total deaths in the state last year.
