Rockdale Tigers beat Cameron Yoemen 56-27 in the Temple holiday tournament consolation final at Temple. Johnny Timmerman scored 19 for Rockdale, Gene Hillman led Cameron with 16, with Rockdale taking early control and never trailing.
Mrs. Marvin Elliott 46 died in a Dallas hospital Sunday morning. Funeral services were held at St. Monica Catholic Church Monday morning with Rev. George J. Duda officiating. Burial followed in Salem Cemetery. Survivors include her husband Marvin Elliott of Dallas, mother Mrs. Idd Richter of Cameron, daughter Dorothy Ann Elliott of Dallas, brother Frank Richter of Austin, and sister Mrs. Erwin Sims of Cameron. Pallbearers were J. T. Krull Milton Tucker Bowie Tucker Vaughn Jenness Robert Weems Nathan Offield Norris Rogers and Dr R M Titeworth.
Kermit Fuller manager of Red Arrow Freight Lines in Waco since 1942 died December 14 in a Waco hospital aged 41 Born February 27, 1916 in Cameron North Elm he was a member of Yarrellton Baptist Church and San Andres Masonic Lodge No 170 Funeral services were held December 16 at Beverly Hills Baptist Church with burial at Waco Memorial Park Survivors include his wife Nancy, a son James Kermit, his mother Mayme Fuller and six brothers and four sisters from Cameron Rockdale Cameron Luling San Antonio and Waco.
Cameron Milam County honors Richard Williams as The Herald’s Citizen of the Month for December. Williams, a 1960 Southwestern University graduate and former Air Force finance officer, chairs a Chamber of Commerce trade and development committee and holds roles in banking and Lions Club activities while guiding Trades Day success. He and his wife Jackie reside with two children.
Cameron residents greet returning Baylor University students and others from Stephens College Sewanee University of the South Dunbarton College Texas Christian University and Texas A M as holiday traffic fills roads. Names listed include Betsy Vogelsang Don Howard Rosemary Jones Jeff Burkes Tom Collins Joye Edmonds Barbara Macon John Carr Russell Drayton McLane Jean Bradbury Wilma Baldridge and many more students from area colleges and universities.
Milam County Health Depart staff honored Dr John B Bryson at Magnolia House with a farewell dinner Friday. He will depart December 31 to take director posts in Bell and Williamson counties. Attendees included Dr Bryson and couples Mr Mrs Wheeler Mr Mrs Wimberly Mr Mrs Jackson and Mr Mrs Adams.
Cameron and Milam County report a quiet Christmas week as local and state highway authorities urge safe driving. Police Chief Maynard Byers warns drivers to watch for others and avoid overindulgence while Cen Tex and state officials predict 206 holiday deaths over the period. Christmas Day sees church services and many shops close. stores reopen Thursday and Trades Day is moved to January 9.
All Saints Episcopal Church observed Christmas with a midnight service on Tuesday, marking the season with traditional rites and communal worship.
