Rosebud Hires Lowrey For Marshal's Post

Milam County constable Maurice Lowrey will become Rosebud city marshal replacing John Curtis who resigned with assistant Charles West. Lowrey starts January 1, after Curtis and West left citing council conflicts. Falls County officials Brannon and Vanick have handled police duties with Mose Hill as part time aide. Rosebud also plans dam repairs funded by a 150000 HUD grant, with final plans to be submitted to the Texas Water Rights Commission and the National Soils Service in Dallas.

Milano cowboy earns spot in 1976 NFR finals

Butch Bode of Milano placed second in calf roping at the National Finals Rodeo in Oklahoma City December 3 to 12. At 24, he and wife Vicky travel the rodeo circuit, with Bode often entering steer wrestling and calf roping as he tracks more world standings.

Unemployment Figures In Milam And Area

The Temple Texas Employment Commission office notes Milam and Hamilton counties have the lowest unemployment at 2.9 percent. Bell is 6.0 percent and Coryell 4.4 percent. Texas statewide rate is 5.3 percent with the U S at 7.2 percent. In October 1976 Milam records 237 unemployed among 8,166 in the labor force.

Commissioners Seek Oil and Gas Valuation On Tax Roll

County commissioners at a regular meeting approved initiating oil and gas property valuations for the tax roll. Judge O B Harden will hire Thomas Y Pickett & Co of Dallas to begin appraisals, and the firm is currently working for Milano School District. Also noted, wolf trapper Clifford Morgan will be unavailable due to illness. The Interior Fish and Wildlife Service offered assistance to landowners. Deadline for next Monday’s paper is Thursday morning because of Christmas holidays.
