Capt. Billy Batte Bryan U S Army Air Corps fighter pilot killed in a July 2 1944 crash over England is en route to Cameron for burial aboard the Army transport Robinson. Six other central Texans on the same ship return home to be buried in their communities. Bryan helped lead the invasion of France on June 6 shooting down two Germans and damaging another amid a four plane attack before escaping back to his base.

City Increases Sewer Connection Charges Within Limits
The City Council raised sewer connection charges inside the city from $3.00 to $9.00 effective January 1, 1949. Outside-city charges were increased to $12.00 on July 1 this year. Cameron previously had among the lowest rates in the area.

Rain Dampens Texas Areas as Drought Ends in Dallas

Funeral rites for Major Wm G Gillis set for Saturday
The body of Major William G Gillis arrives in Cameron at 3 30 a m Saturday. He commanded First Battalion 35th Division and was killed October 1 1944 before Metz. Services are at First Presbyterian Church at 3 p m with military honors at Oak Hill Cemetery.

Missing Airman James Mitchell Feared Lost in Pacific Crash
S Sgt James Arvin Mitchell of White Hall is officially reported missing after a Pacific crash between Kwajalein and Johnson Islands. Officials say his C 54 transport went down after engine failure. Navy lists show no Texas survivors among 833 recovered. James left Cameron High School and attended Methodist University. he was married with two children and served in World War II. His immediate family resides in Washington while siblings live in White Hall and Spicewood Texas.

Gause Expands Athletic Program Aims for Summer
Gene Walker reported in Cameron that Gause's 1947 athletic program expansion proceeds. The paid for athletic field will receive new stands this year. The Gause Athletic Association staged Womanless Wedding with a cake auction raising funds. Proceeds and donations support field rights and improvements for coming year.

Lightning destroys North Elm Church near school
A bolt of lightning wrecked the North Elm Baptist Church early Tuesday near the public school. No one was injured though Mrs Houston and her pupils were shocked. The church sits near the school and across the highway from the North Elm Cemetery where local pioneers are buried.
