Soldier Earl McFarland Wounded in German Fighting
Cameron soldier Sgt. Earl McFarland has been wounded in action in Germany. His mother Mrs. Minnie McFarland and wife Miss Helen Richards report he has been in the European theatre since November 1943 and is now in a Belgian hospital recovering from a broken arm after being shot through the knee cap. He has been awarded the Bronze Star for heroism.

Funeral services for Jesse I Cass held in Gause
Former Gause resident Jesse I Cass 29 died in Houston from a gunshot after an alleged affair. Funeral services are set for Sunday December 10 1944 at 2 p.m. at Gause Baptist Church with burial at Gause Cemetery. Murder charges were filed against William A Smith 26 of Houston who admitted shooting Cass after a dispute over his wife and children. Smith claimed he warned Cass to stop harming his family before firing once near the Milly Car Barn. Cass survived by his widow and son Nolan Ray Cass and several relatives in Gause Galveston and other places. Green Funeral Home to direct arrangements.
